DeskTape Pro™ is the fastest and easiest way to use tape. Only DeskTape Pro™ software allows you to use the Macintosh Finder or Speed Doubler to copy files directly to a mounted tape volume. No other tape backup utility allows such easy access to gigabytes of data, graphic images, or digital audio or video files.
With DeskTape Pro™, there are no applications to open, no complicated copy operations to set up. Simply insert a tape cartridge, initialize it, then copy individual files, folders, or entire volumes to the mounted tape. It's that simple.
Additional data can be easily added at any time until the tape is full. Then, simply re-initialize it to use it over again. DeskTape Pro™ uses a custom Erase Tape dialog that replaces the standard Finder Erase Disk dialog. This allows you to specify tape specific settings like hardware data compression when initializing tapes.
DeskTape Pro™ supports Extended HFS volumes available since Mac OS 8.1. This increases the available capacity and speed of tape volumes. For example, a 25 GB tape volume using Standard HFS could have wasted up to 400 KBytes per file. Extended HFS reduces this waste by a factor of 100.
Unlike other tape backup utilities, DeskTape Pro™ eliminates the need to send along a separate disk containing the tape's directory. With DeskTape Pro™, the tape's directory is temporarily stored on your hard disk and automatically copied to the tape when it is ejected. A copy of the DeskTape Pro™ control panel allows other drives to read any DeskTape Pro™ volume.

-Mac OS (System 7 or later). DeskTape 5.6 supports Mac OS 9.1 or below. DeskTape 5.7 supports Mac OS 9.2.1 and Mac OS 9.2.2.
-8 MB of contiguous free space on startup drive
-DAT drives from HP, Sony, Seagate or Indigita, any DLT or AIT tape drive, VXA (Ecrix 8mm), or Exabyte 8mm (85XX models or later). Note: DeskTape Pro? is not compatible with QIC or Travan tape drives. |
