Product Description
CD-R Access Pro for Macintosh mounts recordable CDs on the desktop allowing the user to copy files to a recordable disc using the Finder. When used with a compatible CD recorder, Optima Technology's patented data boosting technology, U.S. patent number 5,666,531, allows users to store up to 1.3 GB on a standard CD-R or CD-RW disc. Unlike traditional data compression techniques that sacrifice speed for capacity, data boosting increases capacity while increasing read/write speed-all on-the-fly and transparent to the user. CD-R Access Pro's data boosting process increases disc volume capacity to an unprecedented 1.3 GB while allowing you to read and write data at up to twice the normal speed.
Data boosting consists of three processes. The first step removes the unused space within a file allocation block (this saves up to 20 KB per file while reducing the time required to write the file). Next, a high-speed compressor further reduces the size of the file. The final step uses disconnect/reconnect that allows the compressor to run in the background, increasing the overall speed.
Data boosting uses a lossless compression technique so the data stored on the CD is identical to the original data.
Mounted CD Recorder
With CD-R Access Pro, there are no complicated set-ups or unfamiliar interfaces. Simply insert a recordable CD, initialize it, then copy individual files, folders, or entire volumes to the mounted CD. These discs can be read in any multi-session Orange Book Part II compatible CD-ROM drive. Additional data can be added to the disc at any time, until the disc is full. CD-RW discs can be read in any multi-read compatible drive.
When a disc created with CD-R Access Pro is loaded into a Macintosh for the first time, the disc will automatically install the CD-R Access Reader into that system's operating system. After this one-time installation, future CD-R Access discs will immediately mount on the desktop since the CD-R Access Reader resides as a system extension in that computer's operating system.
CD-R Access Pro software works with any speed CPU, and allows files to be copied from virtually any data source-hard disk, tape, floppy, even over a network-regardless of transfer rate. Unlike traditional CD mastering techniques, CD-R Access Pro software eliminates the need to purchase a fast, dedicated hard drive, that must be partitioned and optimized before each copy operation.
